Yoo Seung-min: "A country that forgets war and the sacrifices of heroes is not a homeland"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min stated on the 25th, "A country that has forgotten the war, a country that has forgotten the sacrifices of its heroes is not a homeland," and added, "On this day when the Korean War broke out, I sincerely hope that the spirit and soul of the Republic of Korea are alive and healthier than any other country in the world."
Former lawmaker Yoo said this on social media (SNS) while remembering the Korean War. He explained, "At dawn 71 years ago today, the North Korean army, having completed preparations for a southern invasion, crossed the 38th parallel in a surprise attack and started the war," and added, "The newly established Republic of Korea, which had been founded less than two years prior, was on the brink of extinction." Yoo mentioned, "This brutal war that lasted 3 years and 1 month took the lives of 175,801 soldiers from the national army and UN forces, and 244,663 civilians. Countless soldiers and civilians were injured, and the land was reduced to ashes," and continued, "We built today's great Republic of Korea on the ruins with new spirit and values."
Former lawmaker Yoo, who revealed that he visited the Yongsan War Memorial the day before, said, "I remembered the Korean War and paid tribute to the war heroes in the stone corridor engraved with the names of the fallen soldiers," and introduced, "There, I met a middle-aged father who came to touch the name of his fallen son." He explained, "(This man) was the father of the late Moon Gwang-wook, a marine who died in the North Korean shelling of Yeonpyeong Island on November 23, 2010," and added, "He was there trying to be as close as possible to his son who sacrificed for the country."
