92.2% of Gwangjin Residents Satisfied with 7th Term Local Government Operation... What Is the Reason?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) conducted the "2021 Gwangjin-gu Residents Happiness Index Regular Survey" to improve administrative services and reinforce a thorough quarantine system through evaluation of district administration and COVID-19 response. The survey results showed a satisfaction response rate of 92.2%.
This survey was conducted by the Korea Gallup Survey Research Institute (confidence level 95%, margin of error ±3.5%p) from May 6 to May 17, targeting 1,000 residents aged 18 and over living in the district.
The survey covered satisfaction levels in 10 areas including enhancing regional value, revitalizing the local economy, transportation environment, residential and living environment, overall satisfaction with district administration, and evaluation of COVID-19 response.
According to the satisfaction survey results, the satisfaction response rate for Gwangjin-gu district administration was 92.2%, and the overall satisfaction score was 74.4 points, an increase of 12.3 points compared to 2018.
The overall satisfaction score is calculated as the average of the 100-point converted values of satisfaction in 10 areas and overall satisfaction.
In particular, 91.3% of residents responded that they were satisfied with Gwangjin-gu’s COVID-19 response, with high positive evaluations for providing masks to all residents (52.1%) and COVID-19 notifications (16.3%).
The policy areas with the highest satisfaction were natural environment (77.39 points), educational environment (75.89 points), and civil service administration (75.86 points), in that order.
Additionally, 89.4% of Gwangjin-gu residents responded that they are satisfied living in Gwangjin-gu, citing convenient transportation systems and green/leisure environments as the main reasons.
Among major projects in Gwangjin-gu, the "KT Site Advanced Business Complex Development" had the highest recognition, and the most anticipated new projects were "Free transportation fees for children and youth village buses" and "Automatic enrollment in residents’ life safety insurance and group bicycle insurance," respectively.
Based on the survey results, the district plans to reassess all areas of district administration at this point in time, check vulnerable areas, and establish improvement plans.

Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "Through this residents happiness index survey, we aim to grasp residents’ perceptions and thoughts about district administration and derive improvement tasks. Based on the survey results, we will build a yearly database, establish the direction for district development, and utilize it to implement resident-satisfying administration, leading changes in Gwangjin that residents can feel."
