Cosmax Receives Presidential Citation on 'Invention Day' for Microbiome Technology
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Cosmax, a global cosmetics research, development, and manufacturing (ODM) company, received the Presidential Citation in recognition of its contribution to establishing the foundation of the related industry by developing core cosmetic technologies using microbiome technology.
Cosmax announced on the 15th that it received the Presidential Citation at the '56th Inventors' Day' ceremony. Hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and organized by the Korea Invention Promotion Association, the Inventors' Day ceremony is an event that selects and awards outstanding inventors and organizations. It was established to encourage the spirit of invention and promote industrial development through technological advancement.
Senior Researcher Donggeol Lee of the Materials Lab, who received the Presidential Citation, was the first in the world to prove the correlation between skin microbiome and skin aging. Additionally, by utilizing the newly discovered beneficial skin bacterium ‘Strain-COSMAX,’ he developed new cosmetic materials. In 2019, Cosmax launched microbiome cosmetics using this technology.
To date, Cosmax has filed 72 patents related to microbiomes and registered 32 patents. In February of this year, a microbiome research paper co-published with GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology) was published in the internationally renowned journal Nature Communications Biology.

Meanwhile, Cosmax has secured over 20 types of beneficial microbial strains and is collaborating with domestic and international clients to introduce various microbiome cosmetics. In the future, the company plans to expand the use of skin microbiomes into areas such as ▲oral rinses ▲health functional foods.
