Choo Mi-ae on the Corruption Investigation Office's Probe of Yoon Seok-yeol: "Already Proven with Substantial Evidence"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae commented on June 10 regarding the investigation of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol by the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Department (PCC), stating, "Even at the disciplinary resolution stage of the Ministry of Justice, (the allegations of abuse of authority by former Prosecutor General Yoon) were proven with considerable evidence. That evidence will be fully revealed."
Former Minister Chu appeared on YTN's "Evening News with Byun Sang-wook" that day and criticized, "Former Prosecutor General Yoon is now heading straight to the presidential election himself," adding, "This proves a violation of political neutrality."
She continued, "There is news today that (former Prosecutor General Yoon) appointed a spokesperson from a conservative media outlet and is making a full-fledged political move," and remarked, "A Prosecutor General heading directly to the presidency is unprecedented in constitutional history."
Former Minister Chu asserted, "Putting the pieces together, this person had the intention to engage in politics from the beginning," and claimed, "He was using prosecutorial power as a stepping stone for political preparation and was turning the prosecution organization itself into an organization for his political preparation."
When the host asked about her potential presidential candidacy, she replied, "We need to reignite the Candlelight Revolution, and in a situation where the forces resisting reform are all discouraged, I feel a strong determination not to remain idle," adding, "It seems that people are gathering their resolve to reorganize, and if my dedication is needed there, I am prepared to take on that responsibility."
