As of March 2021, there are 78,590 single-person households in Gwangjin-gu, of which 40,571 are single women households, accounting for 51.6% of the total.
Accordingly, the district is collaborating with the Women’s Division of the Gwangjin-gu Community Security Council to raise social awareness about crime prevention targeting women and to create a safe residential environment for women by promoting the ‘Safe Home Set Support Project.’
The target beneficiaries are single women households living in rental housing such as houses, villas, and officetels within Gwangjin-gu, with a rental deposit of 250 million KRW or less.
The support items include ▲double lock for the front door ▲portable emergency bell ▲door opening sensor ▲home CCTV ▲smart doorbell, with up to four items supported per household.
The ‘double lock for the front door’ prevents the door from being fully opened, and the ‘portable emergency bell’ sends an alarm sound and a text message to the police (112) and acquaintances when pulled in an emergency.
The ‘door opening sensor’ sends a notification to the smartphone when door opening is detected from outside, and the ‘home CCTV’ can detect movements of external intrusion.
The ‘smart doorbell’ is equipped with a high-definition security surveillance camera and artificial intelligence (AI) features; when a stranger lingers outside or presses the bell, the recorded video is transmitted via a smartphone app.
Applications can be submitted from June 14 until the budget is exhausted by filling out the application form posted on the district office website and submitting it in person or via email to the Gwangjin-gu Family Welfare Division.
Meanwhile, the ‘Safe Home Set’ support project was first launched last year and has been completed for 229 single women households.
Kim Seongap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Through this project, we aim not only to establish a safety network for women in the area but also to enhance the overall sense of safety among local residents. We will do our best to create a tight social safety net where all residents can live without fear of crime.”
