Haenam-gun Leads Jeonnam with Most High-Income Returning Farmers Earning Over 50 Million Won
Among 133 Farms in the Province, Haenam-gun Leads with 23 Farms Cultivating the Most Food Crops
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam County in Jeollanam-do has been found to have the highest number of high-income return-to-farmers earning over 50 million KRW annually in the Jeonnam region.
According to the county on the 10th, the annual survey on high-income farmers conducted by Jeollanam-do revealed that there are a total of 133 return-to-farm households earning a net annual income of over 50 million KRW, of which 23 high-income return-to-farm households have settled in Haenam.
By type of management, there are 18 in food crops, 2 in livestock, and 3 in fruit farming, reflecting the advantage of Haenam County’s vast farmland.
In particular, there are 10 return-to-farm households earning over 100 million KRW, mostly engaged in rice farming among food crops, and operating livestock farms such as Korean beef cattle and pigs.
Haenam County opened the Return-to-Farm and Return-to-Village Hope Center in 2016 to attract and stabilize return-to-farm and return-to-village residents, actively promoting customized counseling and support for them as well as various policies and measures reflecting local characteristics.
Especially, this year Haenam County’s return-to-farm and return-to-village policies are attracting attention as differentiated policies compared to other local governments. These include a new vacant house remodeling project to attract return-to-farm and return-to-fish residents, publication of the comprehensive guidebook for return-to-farm and return-to-village residents titled “Happy Return-to-Farm and Return-to-Village No.1, Ttangkkeut Haenam,” a retirees’ community village project utilizing idle resources in rural and fishing villages, “Trying to Live Well in Jeonnam,” and “Trying to Live in the Countryside” projects.
The Return-to-Farm and Fishing Village Stay-type Support Center project, scheduled to open in March next year, is also progressing smoothly and is expected to provide stable settlement opportunities for prospective farmers at the implementation stage as an educational institution for return-to-farm and fishing villages.
