A New Encounter with Hemingway's Novel The Old Man and the Sea
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] On the evening of the 17th at 7:30 PM, the performance of Sorikkun Ijaram's 'The Old Man and the Sea' will be held at the Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater.
Sorikkun Ijaram's 'The Old Man and the Sea' is a work that premiered on November 26, 2019, as a 'Doosan Yeongang Arts Award Winner's New Work.'
Pansori creator Ijaram consistently presents works developing plays or modern and contemporary novels into the pansori format. She is active domestically and internationally with works such as 'Sacheonga,' 'Eokcheokka,' and 'The Song of the Stranger.'
While preparing this work, Ijaram said, "For 'Ijaram' who performs soris, and 'Ijaram' who wants to create scripts and gugak compositions for soris, I carefully selected the work, diligently refined the script, and engraved tones into sentences and words." She added, "I want to entrust the moment when the sorikkun 'Ijaram' meets the 'The Old Man and the Sea' shaped by sound to sorikkun 'Ijaram.'"
This performance allows the audience not only to listen to the story but also to create the stage together with the sorikkun.
Directed by Park Ji-hye of the DAC (Doosan Art Center) artist Yangson Project, with Shinographer Yeoshin Dong participating.
