Sancheong Gugak Festival National Intangible Cultural Heritage Jinju Samcheonpo Nongak Performance
At 3 PM on the 12th at Namsa Yedamchon Gisan Gugakdang
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju Samcheonpo Nongak, a national intangible cultural heritage of our region, will be performed in Sancheong-gun, the hometown of traditional culture.
Sancheong-gun and the Gisan Gugak Festival Committee announced on the 9th that the second gugak performance of the '2021 Sancheong Gugak Festival' will be held at 3 p.m. on the 12th at the Gisan Gugak Hall.
Jinju Samcheonpo Nongak, designated as a national intangible cultural heritage, is a representative Yeongnam Nongak passed down mainly in western Gyeongnam.
Thanks to the efforts led by Master Park Heon-bong of Gisan, it was designated as Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 11 in June 1966, the first in the Nongak category in Korea.
Since then, as Nongak from various regions were additionally designated as cultural properties, the original number was changed, and it is currently registered as National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 11-1.
Jinju Samcheonpo Nongak is a masculine pungmul derived from military music.
It features a grand drum sound, fast and rolling kkwaenggwari rhythm, vigorous sangmo movements, and a dazzling pinnacle of performance with Yeonpungdae, as well as martial arts-like gestures of beoksu such as the ground-falling style spinning jabandwijigi.
It has been passed down centered on holders Master Park Yeom and Master Kim Seon-ok, and especially after modern times, it well reflects the changing aspects of Korean Nongak, giving it high cultural heritage value.
Korean 'Nongak,' including Jinju Samcheonpo Nongak, is a precious cultural heritage inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in November 2014.
Sancheong-gun and the Gisan Gugak Festival Committee plan to comply with COVID-19 quarantine rules during the Sancheong Gugak Festival performances continuing until November, and will deploy and guide safety personnel around the stage for the safety of the audience.
A county official said, "Our Sancheong-gun is making efforts for the revival, succession, and popularization of national arts by continuously holding regular gugak performances centered on Gisan Gugak Hall," and added, "We hope many people will once again feel the beauty of our sound through the Sancheong Gugak Festival held in Namsa Yedamchon, the most beautiful village in Korea."
