Lee Jae-myung "People Power Party Must Also Undergo Comprehensive Real Estate Speculation Investigation"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, urged members of the People Power Party to also undergo a full-scale real estate investigation with integrity.
On the 9th, Lee posted on Facebook titled "People Power Party members should also undergo a full-scale real estate investigation with integrity," criticizing, "The People Power Party's claim that they will not undergo an investigation unless it is conducted by the Board of Audit and Inspection is absurd in this serious situation where public anger and disillusionment over illegal real estate speculation, as well as distrust in the public service, are sky-high."
He continued, "According to Article 24 of the Board of Audit and Inspection Act, National Assembly officials are excluded from the scope of duties, and under the principle of separation of powers, administrative agencies under the executive branch cannot audit legislative officials," emphasizing, "The Board of Audit and Inspection was originally established as an institution to audit public officials' 'duties,' so real estate transactions of individual National Assembly members unrelated to their duties are not subject to investigation."
Lee further argued, "Even if we concede a hundred times that illegal or improper duties by administrative agencies occurred during National Assembly members' real estate transactions, it would be subject to investigation, but a full-scale investigation of all National Assembly members does not apply."
He also pointed out, "The People Power Party is well aware that a full-scale investigation is only possible by changing the purpose of the Board of Audit and Inspection and amending the Board of Audit and Inspection Act to create an unconstitutional law, yet they are calling for public interest audit requests and one-point legislation," adding, "They are showing a double standard by claiming methods that make a full-scale investigation practically impossible, even after obtaining consent for a full-scale investigation from all their members."
Lee praised the Democratic Party, saying, "The Democratic Party underwent a full-scale investigation by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission and, based on the results, recommended that members involved in real estate misconduct resign," and added, "Although the investigation results have not yet been released and this is an excessive preemptive measure under the presumption of innocence, it clearly expressed the determination not to leave any suspicion of real estate speculation among public officials."
He also said, "It is equally difficult to understand the People Power Party's attitude of avoiding the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission for the sake of fairness," and added, "Chairperson Jeon Hyun-hee voluntarily excluded herself from her duties, and a special investigation team including investigators recommended by the opposition party conducted the investigation, so the People Power Party's criticism that 'the investigation lacks objectivity and fairness because a Democratic Party member is chairperson' is a distortion of facts in this investigation and cannot serve as grounds for the legitimacy of the Board of Audit and Inspection's investigation."

In particular, he emphasized, "Stop making unreasonable demands like asking for a basketball referee during a soccer game, stop making excuses to run away, and undergo the full-scale investigation by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission with integrity," adding, "It may be frightening for People Power Party members, but that is the proper duty to the sovereign people and the minimum obligation of elected public officials."
