[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the afternoon of the 7th, members of the People Power Party from the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee visited the National Police Agency in protest over allegations of a botched investigation into the 'taxi driver assault case' involving former Deputy Minister of Justice Lee Yong-gu.
Park Wan-soo, the People Power Party's Public Administration and Security Committee secretary, along with members Seo Beom-su and Kim Hyeong-dong, met with reporters before their meeting with Police Commissioner Kim Chang-ryong, criticizing the police by saying, "All facts are being clearly revealed."
Park said, "The police have declared themselves as the 'police of the regime,'" adding, "If this continues, the independence of investigative authority and the meaning of autonomous police will be nullified." Seo questioned, "Whether the police have the will to investigate those in power," while Kim pointed out, "It must be uncovered whether the Blue House ordered a cover-up."
Earlier that morning, People Power Party members of the Public Administration and Security Committee issued a statement demanding Commissioner Kim's resignation and the implementation of a special prosecutor investigation.
