Tesla Model Y Surpasses Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Tops Imported Car Sales Last Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Tesla's electric vehicle Model Y surpassed the Mercedes-Benz E-Class last month to become the best-selling imported car in South Korea.
According to Kaizyu Data Research Institute on the 5th, the number of newly registered Tesla vehicles in May was recorded at 3,461 units.
Among them, the Tesla Model Y registered 3,328 units, ranking first in imported car sales for the first time.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which held the top spot until April, registered 2,387 units last month, placing second. The BMW 5 Series ranked third with 2,120 units, and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class was fourth with 1,664 units.
The Volkswagen Jetta ranked fifth with 759 units, Lexus ES sixth with 699 units, and Mercedes-Benz GLE seventh with 686 units.
Looking at total sales by brand, Mercedes-Benz ranked first with 7,701 units, BMW second with 6,257 units, and Tesla third with 3,461 units.
