Based on this, the Ministry of Employment and Labor is scheduled to conduct a rigorous special inspection targeting Korea Zinc concerning the serious accident.
According to related agencies including the police on the 4th, a joint on-site investigation was conducted on the 3rd at Korea Zinc in Ulju-gun, Ulsan, where the worker fatality accident occurred on the 30th of last month.
The National Forensic Service, Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency’s Major Crime Investigation Unit, Ministry of Employment and Labor, and KOSHA’s Central Accident Investigation Team conducted a joint investigation and accident inquiry at the container site where the accident occurred from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the 3rd.
They investigated the area around the accident site and traced the movements before and after the accident related to the incident in which two workers died during container cleaning work at Korea Zinc on the 30th of last month.
At the Korea Zinc Onsan Smelter, two workers in their 30s and 40s died while performing container cleaning work that day.
According to the police, it is presumed to be death by suffocation caused by oxygen deficiency due to nitrogen used during the cooling process of the metal case.
Based on the forensic results, the National Forensic Service and others are investigating whether the accident was due to facility issues, problems with the safety and health system, or issues with on-site manuals, and are also investigating any negligence such as violations of safety measures.
The joint investigation team conducted a focused examination of the equipment and gas substances used at the accident site, and the police continued their investigation into the cause of the accident and deficiencies in safety measures based on the on-site investigation results.

The four members of KOSHA’s Central Accident Investigation Team completed a five-day on-site accident investigation schedule and have begun in-depth investigations and report preparation. The Ministry of Employment and Labor will promptly proceed with a special inspection regarding the fatal serious accident.
