On the afternoon of the 3rd, Governor Choi held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office to announce his candidacy, apologizing to the public by saying, "The Democratic Party, including myself, has failed to fulfill the solemn mandate of the people to eliminate 'unfairness, inequality, and wealth disparity.' Especially, we have not created a society where young people can live with hope."
He added, "Only when apology is translated into action can we gain the trust of the people, and understanding the root cause of the problem is essential for proper action."
Regarding the fundamental cause of the issues of 'unfairness, inequality, and wealth disparity,' he emphasized the need for fundamental reform in South Korea, stating, "We must face the fact that it lies in the neoliberal social system of winner-takes-all, profit monopoly, market omnipotence, and welfare reduction."
Governor Choi particularly stressed, "We must focus on those who have been most affected by the social system divided by generation, region, and employment type, and propose a concrete national vision for solving these problems: an employment state, a youth state, a decentralized state, a peace state, and a digital state."
He appealed, "The absolute task of resolving wealth disparity, inequality, and unfairness, which the people have commanded, is something the Democratic Party, which has devoted itself to democracy, can accomplish. We will once again share the anger and tears of the people, stand on the side of the vulnerable where we originally belong, and do our best from the lowest place."
Governor Choi concluded his candidacy declaration by pledging, "My political philosophy is 'human dignity,' and the reason for South Korea's existence is to honor the people. I will surely create a nation where every single citizen is valued."
