Former Hanssem HR Manager Charged with Attempted Sexual Coercion Receives Suspended Sentence in First Trial
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] A former HR team leader of furniture company Hanssem, who was indicted for attempting to coerce sexual intercourse from a victim of an in-house sexual assault, received a suspended sentence in the first trial.
On the 2nd, Judge Seongwan Jeong of the Criminal Division 14 at Seoul Central District Court sentenced Yoo, the former Hanssem HR team leader indicted for attempted coercion, to six months in prison with a two-year suspension. Yoo was previously indicted for attempting to lay victim A, who was sexually assaulted in the company, on a bed at a business trip accommodation in April 2017 but failed. Victim A had been sexually assaulted by a company colleague in January 2017, and Yoo was investigated for committing the act after threatening to impose personnel disadvantages.

Yoo was also indicted for coercing victim A to retract her statements related to the sexual assault case and was sentenced in the first trial to eight months in prison with a two-year suspension. The appeal trial is currently underway.
