"‘I’ll kill you and send you to prison’ - 40s Biological Mother Arrested for Years of Threatening and Assaulting Teenage Daughter"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] A woman in her 40s, who was prosecuted for habitually assaulting and abusing her teenage daughter while threatening to kill her, was sentenced to prison and detained in court.
According to the legal community on the 1st, Judge Lee Yeonjin of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 2 sentenced A (40, female), who was charged with violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse), to one year in prison. She was also ordered to complete a 40-hour child abuse treatment program and was banned from working in child-related institutions for three years.
A was non-custodially indicted for emotionally abusing her daughter B (18), who was under the protection of a child protection agency, by calling her at 11:25 p.m. on October 29 last year and threatening, "If I find you, I'll cut off your head," and "I'll kill you and the second child and go to prison." Two days later, she threatened her daughter again by phone, saying, "If I chase you, I'll stab you."
A is also accused of hitting B's head several times with her fist and strangling her in an alley in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, in September 2018, saying, "Your tone is rude and your expression is unpleasant." In July 2019, she was charged with hitting B's head with a rice paddle and the heel of a sandal at her residence, pulling her hair to throw her to the floor, and stepping on her thigh with her foot.
The court stated, "The defendant committed physical and emotional abuse against her child victim for a considerable period, which is very serious. She repeatedly committed the crimes without any particular reason, and the victim suffered significant mental damage."
It added, "The defendant did not show a sincere attitude of reflection, contacting the victim's side even during the trial. She appears to take the law and judicial procedures lightly and does not respect the victim, so a prison sentence is imposed," explaining the sentencing rationale.
