View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Lotte announced on the 1st that it will carry out support projects to express gratitude to active-duty soldiers and military families in honor of the Month of Patriots and Veterans.
Lotte Holdings, Lotte Confectionery, and Korea Seven will deliver snack boxes worth approximately 55 million KRW to about 2,000 soldiers who are dedicating themselves on the front lines, supporting quarantine and vaccine transportation to overcome COVID-19. The snack boxes will contain products from Lotte Confectionery’s snack vending machines and beverages. Lotte will also collect support messages from consumers on its social contribution website to deliver together.
Lotte Holdings has decided to support the Proud Army Family Award newly established this year by the Army Headquarters. They plan to select 100 spouses of soldiers and military officials who have worked diligently annually and provide prize money and gifts.
From this month and for the next year, Lotte World Adventure will allow soldiers on leave with leave permits to use the park free of charge. Active-duty officers, military officials, cadets, officer candidates, ROTC members, and their companions can receive a 50% discount. Since 2013, Lotte Cultureworks has been offering Lotte Cinema ticket and combo set discounts to active-duty soldiers, reservists in their first and second years, and military officials.
The Lotte Scholarship Foundation has been providing scholarships worth 200 million KRW this year to about 100 children of soldiers injured or deceased in the line of duty who are middle school, high school, or university students. Scholarships are awarded twice a year, in March and September.
Meanwhile, Lotte has continued various support efforts for the military and soldiers. The Youth Bookstore, ongoing since 2016, is a representative example. The Youth Bookstore project creates spaces in the form of reading cafes for soldiers stationed at frontline GOPs and coastal outposts, where cultural benefits are hard to access, allowing them to engage in self-development. Over the past six years, Lotte has supported a total of 57 Youth Bookstores, including 51 in the Army and 6 in the Air Force. This year, eight more locations will be opened.
