[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 1st that it held the "2nd LH Land and Housing Public Data Utilization Startup Competition" to discover creative business models and promote new startups through the private use of public data.
LH opens data to the public through the "Public Data Portal" operated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, including △information related to land and housing subscription announcements △statistics such as age and gender by rental housing complex △floor plans of LH apartments nationwide.
Following the results of the first startup competition held last year, many new products were developed, such as △a revenue-type service platform providing lifestyle experience data of rental housing residents △the "LH National Land Information APP" offering comprehensive land and building data in a mobile environment △a service providing accessible routes for the disabled through architectural drawing analysis △apartment unit view analysis using machine learning.
In particular, last year’s award-winning work, the "LH National Land Information APP," is a product that provides comprehensive data on land and buildings in a mobile environment, utilizing public data such as △LH sale and rental announcements △detailed information on notices from the LH subscription center. Since its posting on the Google Play Store in June last year, it has maintained a high rating above 4 stars and recorded over 10,000 downloads.
This competition is open to anyone interested in public data, and individuals or teams of up to five members can participate. The contest targets the development of mobile applications (APP) or web services, and must utilize data opened by LH on the "Public Data Portal." If necessary, data from other institutions can also be linked.
To participate, applicants must fill out the application form posted on the official website of the Government-wide Public Data Utilization Startup Competition or the LH website and submit it via email. It is especially important to note that prototype development must be completed by the application deadline.
The evaluation consists of a first-round document review and a second-round presentation review, with judges composed of about five internal and external members of the LH Public Data Committee. Evaluation criteria include △appropriateness of public data utilization △originality △technicality △potential for development △creation of social value △readiness for commercialization (presentation) △product completeness (product demonstration).
Winners will be selected as △Grand Prize (1 team) △Excellence Award (1 team) △Encouragement Award (2 teams), and winning teams will be supported with joint use of owned data and expert mentoring. In particular, the Grand Prize winner will have the opportunity to advance to the integrated finals of the "9th Government-wide Startup Competition" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
