LG Uplus Signs Industry-Academia Cooperation Agreement with Korea Polytech VII University to Revitalize Smart Factory Industry
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] LG Uplus announced on the 1st that it has signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement with Korea Polytechnics VII Changwon Campus to revitalize the smart factory industry.
According to this agreement, both parties will cooperate comprehensively in areas such as ▲joint research for revitalizing the smart factory industry ▲development of smart factory department curriculum ▲mutual cooperation in discovering new business opportunities in Gyeongsangnam-do. LG Uplus will also support Korea Polytechnics VII with a virtual reality (VR) mock interview solution to promote smart education in the non-face-to-face environment due to COVID-19.
Cho Won-seok, Head of New Business Group (Executive Director) at LG Uplus, said, “Through joint industry-academic research to realize intelligent smart factories, we will discover new business opportunities in the Gyeongnam region,” and added, “We will establish a cooperative relationship with Korea Polytechnics VII to lay the foundation for leading the smart factory industry.”
Bae Seok-tae, President of Korea Polytechnics VII, said, “We are pleased to select LG Uplus as the representative company that can match our smart factory, smart electrical, and smart electronics departments for industry-academic cooperation,” and added, “We will jointly promote all feasible measures at our university to turn this into a groundbreaking opportunity for university development.”

Last year, LG Uplus built 5G mobile edge computing (MEC) and AI-based smart factories at about 70 business sites including power generation and steelworks with over 30 LG affiliates. This year, it will also establish smart industrial complexes in Ulsan and Yeosu in cooperation with Jeollanam-do Provincial Office and Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (Ulsan Regional Headquarters, Jeonnam Regional Headquarters).
