View original imageThe number of people receiving their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in South Korea exceeded 500,000 in a single day on the 28th.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team) on the 29th, 542,227 people received their first dose the previous day.
Following 657,192 people on the 27th, a large-scale first dose vaccination was conducted for two consecutive days. The total number of first-dose recipients over the two days was 1,199,419.
With the recent arrival of AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine supplies directly contracted by the government, vaccination for the general population aged 65 to 74 has been fully underway, accelerating the vaccination pace.
The majority of new first-dose recipients, 465,766 people, received the AstraZeneca vaccine, while the remaining 71,461 received the Pfizer vaccine.
The cumulative number of first-dose recipients reached 5,233,963. The first-dose vaccination rate compared to the total population (51,349,116 as of December last year) is 10.2%.
Among them, 3,118,326 people received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 2,115,637 received the Pfizer vaccine.
An additional 63,876 people completed their second dose. Among them, 52,294 received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 11,582 received the Pfizer vaccine.
The cumulative number of people who completed the second dose reached 2,133,720, which is about 4.2% of the population.
By vaccine type, 1,636,617 people completed the Pfizer second dose, and 497,103 completed the AstraZeneca second dose.
For the AstraZeneca vaccine, 39.0% of the target population (7,995,931 people) have completed the first dose, and the second dose rate is 6.2%.
For the Pfizer vaccine, the vaccination rates compared to the target population (3,727,173 people) are 56.8% for the first dose and 43.9% for the second dose.
The total cumulative number of vaccinations, combining both first and second doses domestically, is 7,367,683.
In South Korea, vaccinations are being carried out sequentially using AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines.
Both vaccines require two doses. The AstraZeneca vaccine recommends the second dose at an interval of 11 to 12 weeks, while the Pfizer vaccine recommends a 3-week interval.
Starting from the 7th of next month, vaccinations will be conducted for elderly people aged 60 to 64, as well as teachers and childcare workers of kindergartens, daycare centers, and lower grades (1st to 2nd grade) of elementary schools aged 30 and above.

Vaccination candidates can make reservations through the online pre-registration system, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency call center (☎1339), or local government consultation phone lines until the 3rd of next month.
