[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] AK Plaza announced on the 28th that it will present various seasonal food events to celebrate the 67th anniversary of Aekyung's founding.
AK Plaza Suwon and Pyeongtaek branches will hold a freshwater eel event from the 28th to the 4th of next month for customers seeking early summer health foods due to the early heat. This event, the first of its kind in the department store industry, will sell 'Haesuyang-sik Freshwater Eel,' which is farmed using seawater instead of freshwater. Unlike conventional farming methods, 'Haesuyang-sik Freshwater Eel' is farmed using seawater, which improves the unique fishy smell of freshwater eel, making it widely consumable by people of all ages. It boasts a chewier and richer texture compared to regular freshwater eel.
AK Plaza Bundang branch sells freshwater eels from 'Cheongsan Yangman Fishery Cooperative Corporation,' which is the first in Korea to receive HACCP and antibiotic-free eel certification. HACCP refers to a scientific hygiene management system that systematically controls all harmful factors that may occur during the distribution stages of food to ensure food safety. 'Cheongsan Yangman Fishery Cooperative Corporation' features a clean system where water quality is managed through high-density circulation filtration 18 times a day, and fish feed and excrement residues are purified, producing clean and healthy eels without using antibiotics or disinfectants.
In celebration of Sea Day, an event showcasing fresh seafood from Jindo is also being held. AK Plaza Bundang branch will hold the 'Jindo Fresh Seafood Invitation Exhibition' from the 28th until the 3rd of next month. At this exhibition, cuttlefish caught using the traditional method of nangjang nets in Jodo-myeon, Jindo-gun, will be prepared and rapidly frozen for sale. It boasts high freshness and is easy to cook, making it highly useful for outdoor cooking activities such as camping. Jindo cuttlefish is known for its thick and tender flesh and is considered a seasonal delicacy. In addition, high-quality seasonal seafood such as Jindo seaweed and dried kanara fish will be sold at discounts of up to 40%.

AK Plaza is also holding a U.S. cherry event in collaboration with the California Cherry Association. U.S. cherries, a seasonal early summer fruit, are characterized by their sweet taste and rich juice with a crisp texture, thanks to abundant sunlight and large temperature differences between day and night. AK Plaza will offer special prices on U.S. cherries for three days from the 28th to the 30th. At AK Plaza Bundang branch, 1 pack (1kg) is sold for 12,900 KRW, and at AK Plaza Suwon and Pyeongtaek branches, 1 pack (700g) is sold for 6,700 KRW.
