'Late Son Jung-min Case' Police Chief Faces Fake News... Police Launch Internal Investigation
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The police have launched an internal investigation as fake news involving Commissioner General Kim Chang-ryong of the National Police Agency is spreading in connection with the case of university student the late Son Jeong-min, who went missing at Seoul Hangang Park and was later found dead.
On the 28th, the National Police Agency stated, "A video containing false information related to Commissioner General Kim Chang-ryong was posted on YouTube, and we have initiated an internal investigation including legal review."
On YouTube, a video titled "Commissioner General Kim Chang-ryong's urgent announcement to the public: 'I take responsibility for the Son Jeong-min case... The Son Jeong-min case is not over yet'" was uploaded the day before. The video even included a photo of Commissioner General Kim.
The National Police Agency posted a comment on its official YouTube account stating, "This video is unrelated to Commissioner General Kim Chang-ryong, and legal action will be taken against the dissemination of false information."
The uploader of the video had previously posted a video on the 26th containing false claims that Daejeon Police Commissioner Song Jeong-ae criticized the investigation team handling this case. The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Chungbuk Police Agency is conducting an internal investigation into this YouTuber.
