Yeongdeungpo-gu Appoints 'ONmam Parent Safety Support Group' to Help At-Risk Youth Grow Healthily
Promotion of 'Hanppyeom', the first domestically developed multilingual smartphone child guidance web app by the Youth Counseling and Welfare Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) and the Youth Counseling Welfare Center have appointed the ‘ONmam Parent Safety Support Group’ to accurately assess the situations of at-risk youth and help ensure timely and appropriate responses, and have begun full-scale activities.
The ‘ONmam Parent Safety Support Group’ is a prevention and support organization for at-risk youth, composed of 13 parents with adolescent children in the area. They discuss major youth-related policies and work to establish safe and healthy online and offline growth environments.
The name ‘ONmam Parent Safety Support Group’ reflects the commitment to “turn on the light of the heart (ON)” and wholeheartedly lead the effort to make Yeongdeungpo a safe place for youth.
The district recruited 13 parents to serve as the support group members in March and April, and on May 13, appointment certificates were presented at Hey YDP, a women’s communication and cultural space.
Going forward, the support group will ▲ monitor harmful environments for youth and conduct outreach activities and campaigns with their children ▲ discuss youth-related policies and social issues ▲ propose policy recommendations ▲ participate in six sessions of parent capacity-building education focused on improving parent-child relationships ▲ and take part in happiness healing training programs aimed at enhancing the mental and physical well-being and life satisfaction of participating parents.
Additionally, they will promote ‘Hanppyeom,’ a web app encyclopedia for smartphone-based child guidance developed by Yeongdeungpo-gu.
‘Hanppyeom’ was created by the Yeongdeungpo-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center in response to the increased time children and adolescents spend at home due to the spread of COVID-19, which has led to a sharp rise in computer and smartphone usage. It is Korea’s first multilingual child guidance web app designed to recognize potential problems and risks in cyberspace and prepare appropriate countermeasures.
‘Hanppyeom’ categorizes smartphone basics, games, YouTube and internet videos, webtoons, and more, helping parents and youth understand risks and cultures in each area, providing guidance methods and recommended resources to facilitate proper communication and guidance in the smart media world.
Notably, reflecting Yeongdeungpo’s characteristics as a district with many multicultural families, it has been developed in three language versions: Korean, English, and Chinese.
Moreover, as long as there is internet access, users can access the content anytime and anywhere simply by scanning a QR code tag, providing content without spatial or temporal limitations.
The ONmam Parent Safety Support Group plans to promote ‘Hanppyeom’ among nearby parents, gather user feedback, and continuously improve and develop the app.
Furthermore, parents in the area who wish to participate as members of the Parent Safety Support Group can apply by phone to the Yeongdeungpo-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center.
