Exploration of Road Sinkholes on Nakseongdae Road and Others in Gwanak-gu to Ensure Road Safety
Seonghyeon-ro, Jowon-ro, Nakseongdae-ro, and 31 other side roads with heavy vehicle traffic, 17km section jointly surveyed... - Proactive exploration of main causes of road subsidence joints, contributing to accident prevention through prompt action
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) will conduct an "Underground Void Investigation Service" starting in June to prevent road subsidence accidents caused by underground voids (empty spaces).
With growing social interest in underground safety management, this initiative aims to proactively detect voids, which are a major cause of road collapses, and to prevent traffic inconvenience and safety accidents through prompt action.
The district will invest a total project cost of 270 million KRW to conduct underground void investigations using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment on 31 side road sections with a lane width of 8 meters or more and heavy vehicle traffic (including village bus routes), covering 17 km (equivalent to 112 km of lanes) on roads such as Seonghyeon-ro, Jowon-ro, and Nakseongdae-ro.
The investigation will proceed in the order of ▲preliminary survey (field inspection and route mapping) ▲first survey (vehicle-mounted GPR survey) ▲void signal analysis ▲second survey (drilling and endoscopic filming) ▲rapid restoration.
For areas where the vehicle-mounted GPR equipment cannot survey, such as gutters and curves, handheld GPR equipment will be used to ensure thorough investigation.
The detected voids will be classified into four grades according to the "Seoul City Void Grading Criteria": ▲urgent ▲priority ▲general ▲monitoring. If an urgent grade void is found, rapid restoration work (injecting flowable material followed by pavement restoration) will be carried out.
Meanwhile, the district plans to invest a total budget of 500 million KRW by 2022 to conduct underground void investigations and maintenance on 114 side road sections (equivalent to 200 km of lanes), aiming to prevent road collapses and create safer roads.
