Efforts to Recognize Police Officer Who Died After COVID-19 Vaccination as Fallen in the Line of Duty
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The police have initiated the procedure to recognize the death in the line of duty of a police officer who died after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the National Police Agency on the 26th, the procedure to recognize the death in the line of duty of Inspector A, who collapsed after receiving the AstraZeneca (AZ) COVID-19 vaccine on the 30th of last month and died on the 16th while receiving treatment at a hospital, is underway.
The police stated that the Jangheung Police Station in Jeonnam, where Inspector A was assigned, is currently collecting materials to apply for the death in the line of duty recognition. The National Police Agency supports the preparation of documents, and once Jangheung Police Station applies for the recognition to the Government Employees Pension Service, the service verifies the facts and refers the case to the Ministry of Personnel Management review committee.

After vaccination, Inspector A experienced headaches and chills, was prescribed medication, and showed improvement, but on the 12th, symptoms worsened again and he was transferred to a university hospital in Gwangju. He was diagnosed with thrombosis and underwent stent surgery, but ultimately passed away on the afternoon of the 16th.
