Since the announcement of the statement on sharing the Shinyang Park Hotel site by Gwangju City on February 22, the Public-Private-Government Committee has held several meetings regarding the purchase and utilization plans of the shared site, and a consensus was formed on holding a public forum to explain the necessity and methods of sharing to the citizens above all.
In the first part of this public forum, Lee Jae-chang, head of the Mudeungsan Protection Organizations Council, will deliver a keynote speech on "Citizen Movements and Significance for 40 Years of Environmental Conservation of Mudeungsan," and Heo Min, chairman of the Public-Private-Government Committee and co-representative of the Mudeungsan UNESCO Global Geopark, will present on "Principles and Directions for Sharing Shinyang Park Hotel."
This will provide basic materials for aggregating citizens' opinions and focused discussions in the future regarding overseas cases of the National Trust, the history of the Mudeungsan sharing movement, the spirit of sharing Shinyang Park Hotel and Mudeungsan, and directions for utilization.
The second part will hold a free discussion with four designated discussants and open discussion for citizens. The designated discussants include Ven. Jung Hyun, head monk of Jeungsimsa Temple, Lee Kyung-hee, secretary general of the Gwangju Environmental Movement Federation, Kim Hong-sik, principal of Jeon Ildong Middle School, and Ahn Byung-rak, representative of Jisan 2-dong.
Furthermore, through continuous forums and concurrent collection of citizens' opinions, they plan to create a model case for sharing Shinyang Park Hotel, with the second public forum scheduled for next month.
In particular, representing the Public-Private-Government Committee, a declaration will be read to inform that the ecological and cultural resources of Mudeungsan, recognized worldwide, are not privileges for the current generation to enjoy but assets to be passed on intact to future generations. Citizens interested in this forum can participate non-face-to-face via YouTube and watch it again.
