Changwon Mayor Heo Seong-mu: "Special City Launch, the Shortcut to Successful Local Autonomy"
Regular Meeting of the Local Autonomy and Decentralization Council Held
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City, Gyeongnam, held the first regular meeting of the Changwon City Local Autonomy and Decentralization Council of the year on the 20th at the City Hall Citizen Hall.
The Changwon City Local Autonomy and Decentralization Council, launched on August 26, 2018, has been promoting various activities with citizens to realize decentralization, such as 'Decentralization Policy Forums,' 'Visiting Decentralization Academies,' and 'Decentralization Activation UCC Contests.'
Based on the 'Special Act on Local Autonomy Decentralization and Local Administrative System Reform' and the 'Ordinance on Promotion and Support of Local Autonomy Decentralization in Changwon City,' the council also serves an advisory role to strengthen autonomy capabilities, acting as a focal point to secure momentum for decentralization efforts.
Chairman Choi Chung-kyung said, "The launch of the Special City is truly the first step toward genuine local autonomy and decentralization," adding, "To realize practical local autonomy in the future, specific authority and finances must be supported, and the council will take the lead in expanding communication and cooperation."
The meeting discussed topics including 'Efforts to Secure Authority Following the Passage of the Special City Bill,' '2021 Implementation Plan of the Presidential Local Autonomy Decentralization Committee,' and 'Major Projects of the Decentralization Council for the Second Half of the Year.'

In particular, as a major project of the council, a 'Special City Promotion Hall' will be operated at the '2021 Defense Industry Parts Expo' in June to produce and promote content that citizens are curious about. In the second half of the year, a decentralization and Special City talk concert will be held to discuss changes in Changwon City following the full revision of the Local Autonomy Act and the launch of the Special City.
