Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Opens Wolgok Goryeoin Culture Center Embracing History and Culture of Goryeoin

The opening ceremony was held as a place where both native and immigrant residents could come together to commemorate World Day.
About 30 guests, including Kim Sam-ho, head of Gwangsan-gu, attended to celebrate the first launch of Wolgok Goryeo-in Culture Center.
At the event, based on the history and culture of the Koryo-saram who experienced forced migration in Central Asia and settled in Wolgok-dong, a time was provided for native and immigrant residents of Gwangsan-gu to naturally share each other's cultures.
The program started with a fusion gugak performance by the world music group Root Merge and a welcoming dance of traditional Central Asian dance, followed by the Eurasia Vision Declaration Ceremony, tape-cutting ceremony, and facility tour.
In particular, through the World Citizen Charter, which declares that immigrants and native residents who settled in Wolgok-dong, Gwangsan-gu from various countries will create a happy community together, the will to unite with global citizens spreading from the Wolgok Goryeo-in Culture Center was expressed.
The Wolgok Goryeo-in Culture Center, which opened on this day, will showcase various exhibitions based on the history and culture of the Koryo-saram, and operate spaces and programs where native and immigrant residents can communicate.

Kim Sam-ho, head of the district, said, “Through the opening of the Wolgok Goryeo-in Culture Center, I hope that native and immigrant residents of Gwangsan-gu will learn together about the painful history of the forced migration of Koryo-in compatriots in Central Asia and share each other's histories,” adding, “This will become a hub space where they can understand and communicate with each other.”
