The Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project is one of the representative community-based social overhead capital (SOC) projects aimed at modernizing underdeveloped fishing villages and ports and revitalizing fishing villages through specialized development.
Through this year's public contest, 50 new sites will be selected for next year. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has been promoting 250 projects, including 70 sites in 2019, 120 sites last year, and 60 sites this year.
The briefing sessions will provide guidance on the main contents of the project, plans for selecting next year's project sites, application methods, and implementation schedules. Additionally, public hearings for local governments and residents regarding the basic concept and development direction of the 'Fishing Village and Port Regeneration Development Plan,' being established under the Fishing Village and Port Act, will be held simultaneously. Opinions gathered from the public hearings will be reflected in establishing a mid- to long-term plan for fishing village and port regeneration projects through 2030.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will also attend the briefing sessions to explain the 'Rural Residential Platform Project.' This project will be piloted this year at five sites selected for the Fishing Village New Deal Project. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is responsible for tailored support for regional demand and urban regeneration, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries for the Fishing Village New Deal, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for rural agreements, respectively.
The application period for next year's Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project public contest is from September 6 to 10. The target regions will be finalized in December.
Choi Hyun-ho, head of the Fishing Village and Port Regeneration Planning Division at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, said, "We hope each region prepares a solid application plan considering regional coexistence and harmony, which are the directions for next year's Fishing Village New Deal Project." He added, "The success of the project depends above all on the local community's willingness to promote the project, so we ask for residents' continuous interest and active cooperation."
