Helping Farms Facing Labor Shortage During Peak Farming Season Due to COVID-19
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Changwon City Saemaeul Association conducted volunteer work to assist with farm labor on the 14th at a persimmon farm in Dong-eup, Uichang-gu, Changwon City.
About 50 Saemaeul leaders from Changwon City participated in this volunteer activity, including Kim Heungman, Chairman of the Uichang·Seongsan District Council, and Lee Kyungok, Chairwoman of the Uichang·Seongsan District Women's Association.
The work on that day involved thinning out flowers on the branches to ensure smooth fruit growth, with particular attention paid to personal hygiene management and quarantine measures to prevent COVID-19 infection.
Jang Giyeong, Chairman of the Changwon City Saemaeul Association, said, "We promoted farm labor assistance to help farming households facing labor shortages due to the aging rural population, even if only a little," and added, "Going forward, the Changwon City Saemaeul Association will continue to participate in helping neighbors in need together with its members."
