Consumer Agency: "95% of Consumers Will Buy High-Efficiency Energy Products Even If They Are Expensive"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] It was found that 95% of consumers are willing to purchase energy-efficient products even if the price is somewhat higher. Additionally, more than 90% responded that they were influenced by the quality comparison information from the Korea Consumer Agency when purchasing products.
The Consumer Agency announced the results of a survey on the effectiveness of quality comparison information for 20 items, including drum washing machines and moisturizing creams, released last year, on the 13th.
According to the survey conducted on 600 consumers who had experience accessing quality comparison information, 83.3% of respondents said the product information was useful. Consumers who said they were influenced to purchase products after checking the comparison information accounted for 92.2%, a 1.9 percentage point decrease from the previous year (94.1%), but it was still found to have an influence of over 90%.
Among the respondents, 93.8% were aware of the energy consumption efficiency rating. When 6.2% of consumers who said they did not know about the rating were shown comparison information on the energy efficiency of products, 81.1% of them responded that they would purchase energy-efficient products. The Consumer Agency evaluated that the comparison information was effective in improving consumers' awareness related to energy.
In addition, 95.0% of respondents who expressed willingness to purchase energy-efficient products said they would be willing to pay extra costs. Among the additional payment amounts, 49.6% said between 10% and 25% of the purchase price, which was the most common range.

A representative from the Consumer Agency said, "In the future, comparison information related to energy efficiency is expected to become an important criterion for consumer choice," and added, "The Consumer Agency plans to support consumers' rational product selection this year as well, including energy efficiency information and products related to COVID-19."
