Palantir Reveals Possibility of Direct Bitcoin Investment
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, Mentions Bitcoin... Industry Expectations Rise
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin has risen to the 70 million KRW range. The announcement by American data analytics company Palantir and companies like Facebook to participate in the cryptocurrency market acted as a positive factor.
According to the domestic cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, as of 2:30 PM on the 12th, Bitcoin recorded 70.05 million KRW, up 0.44% compared to the previous day. Although it had fallen from the 70 million KRW range to the 67 million KRW range the day before, it recovered again within a day.
Palantir's aggressive moves had a positive impact. On the 11th (local time), according to the US economic media CNBC, David Glazer, Palantir's Chief Financial Officer (CFO), stated at the Q1 earnings report briefing, "Customers can pay for goods with Bitcoin," and "We are also considering directly investing in Bitcoin and including it in our financial statements."
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), mentioning Bitcoin also acted as a positive factor. On the 10th, CEO Zuckerberg posted a photo of two goats on his Facebook account, saying, "My cute goats Zuckerberg and Bitcoin." Previously, Facebook had attempted to issue the cryptocurrency Libra but was blocked by the US federal government and central bank. The cryptocurrency industry interpreted Zuckerberg's post as Facebook preparing to actively participate in the cryptocurrency market. Joo Ki-young, CEO of cryptocurrency data company CryptoQuant, said on Twitter, "Soon, companies like Facebook may announce that they have purchased Bitcoin."
