Guro-gu Leads Seoul and Gyeonggi's 'Anyangcheon Attraction Development and Advancement Project'
Business Agreement Ceremony Held on the 11th at Anyangcheon Ecological Flower Garden... Eight Local Government Heads Including Mayor Lee Seong Attended... Foundation Laid for Project Expansion with January Agreement Among Four Seoul Districts and March Meeting of Four Gyeonggi Region Local Governments
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) signed a business agreement on the 11th with eight local governments from Seoul (Guro, Geumcheon, Yeongdeungpo, Yangcheon) and Gyeonggi Province (Gwangmyeong, Anyang, Gunpo, Uiwang).
On the 11th, Guro-gu announced, "This agreement ceremony was prepared to establish close cooperation and a systematic and efficient management system among the eight local governments sharing Anyangcheon Stream, aiming to create the best river attraction in Korea."
Earlier, in January of this year, Guro-gu signed a business agreement for the "Anyangcheon Stream Attraction Project" together with four autonomous districts: Guro, Geumcheon, Yeongdeungpo, and Yangcheon, to create better spaces for residents.
Then, in March, Mayor Lee Seong of Guro-gu, who led the Seoul four districts' business agreement at the working-level council of four local governments in the Gyeonggi area (Gwangmyeong, Anyang, Gunpo, Uiwang) for the advancement of Anyangcheon Stream, attended as a representative and introduced the "Anyangcheon Stream Attraction Project," laying the foundation to expand the project scope to Gyeonggi Province.
The business agreement ceremony held at the Anyangcheon Ecological Flower Garden was attended by all representatives of the eight local governments, including Mayor Lee Seong of Guro-gu, Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu, Mayor Chae Hyun-il of Yeongdeungpo-gu, Mayor Kim Soo-young of Yangcheon-gu, Mayor Park Seung-won of Gwangmyeong, Mayor Choi Dae-ho of Anyang, Mayor Han Dae-hee of Gunpo, and Mayor Kim Sang-don of Uiwang, who all signed the agreement.
According to this agreement, the eight local governments will jointly promote ▲ establishment of a basic plan for the Anyangcheon Stream attraction and advancement project ▲ joint cooperation to secure national budget ▲ restraint on excessive overlapping installation of specific facilities ▲ joint use of various facilities ▲ creation of a 100-ri Rose and Cherry Blossom Road project ▲ securing continuity of Anyangcheon Stream walking paths, riverbanks, small trails, and bicycle roads ▲ ecological restoration projects for embankments, slopes, and riverbanks ▲ adjustment of administrative boundaries due to discrepancies between river shapes and administrative districts ▲ river management plans ▲ Anyangcheon Belt festivals and events (such as rose and cherry blossom walking events) ▲ water quality improvement, biodiversity surveys, and removal of harmful plants ▲ protection of wild birds in Anyangcheon Stream and management of avian influenza.
Guro-gu has made various efforts to transform Anyangcheon Stream, once a symbol of pollution, into an ecological river and a resting space for residents.
Among the fruits of these efforts, the most notable project is the riverside arboretum project centered on the Anyangcheon Ecological Flower Garden. This project is a key pledge of Mayor Lee Seong’s 7th term, aiming to create a green city where work and life are balanced by turning the Anyangcheon area into a natural resting space at the level of an arboretum. Driven by the mayor’s strong will, the area, once overgrown with reeds and weeds, has been transformed into the largest ecological flower garden in southwest Seoul (17,500㎡).
This year, Guro-gu will create a rose tunnel with a total area of 4,000㎡ and a length of 1 km between Anyanggyo and Gwangmyeonggyo Bridges, and expand green spaces by planting various flowering plants over 7,500㎡ along the riverside walking path in front of the Gocheok Sky Dome.
