Gyeonggi-do Launches Joint Inspection of Rivers and Valleys Starting This Month to Prepare for Summer Peak Season

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province will conduct joint inspections with city and county authorities starting this month to maintain clean rivers and valleys ahead of the summer peak season.
On the 3rd, the province announced, "To minimize inconvenience for visitors during the summer vacation season, we plan to check the progress of projects to ensure that essential convenience facilities such as temporary parking lots and portable restrooms are in place by May."
In particular, from July 1 to August 31, the peak summer season, intensive inspections will be conducted even on weekends.
The targets include convenience facilities, prevention of illegal dumping of garbage, illegal structures and waste accumulation, illegal occupation and unreported/unregistered illegal business activities, and illegal activities within forests along rivers and valleys.
For 13 locations in 9 cities and counties expected to be the most crowded, such as Pocheon Baegun Valley, Yangju Jangheung Valley, and Gapyeong Jojongcheon, inspections will focus on the installation status of essential convenience facilities and illegal activities.
Regarding illegal business activities, demolition will be carried out according to relevant laws, and the responsible city and county authorities will be notified. Any deficiencies or areas needing improvement will be immediately addressed through guidance, with strengthened management and supervision.
Additionally, special judicial police officers will conduct focused investigations on illegal occupation and business activities in July, and repeat offenders will be criminally prosecuted as part of a strong response.

The inspection team is composed of provincial special judicial police officers, the river department, forestry department, food safety department, city and county river and valley inspection officers, and river monitors.
