North Korea Targets Biden's Congressional Speech, Promises "Corresponding Measures"
U.S. President Joe Biden (at the podium) receives a standing ovation from Democratic lawmakers, including Vice President and Senate President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, behind the podium during his speech at the joint session of Congress held at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on the 28th (local time).
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] North Korea responded on the 2nd, saying it "cannot be tolerated" against U.S. President Joe Biden's statement that he would address North Korea's nuclear threat through "diplomacy and stern deterrence."
On the same day, Kwon Jung-geun, Director of the U.S. Affairs at North Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, strongly opposed Biden's speech to Congress on the 28th of last month, calling it a "slip of the tongue." He criticized, "Mentioning diplomacy and stern deterrence is something we have always heard from the Americans and was already expected," adding, "It clearly reflects the U.S.'s persistent hostile policy toward North Korea that has been pursued for over half a century."
Earlier, on the 28th of last month (local time), President Biden, in his first speech to Congress since taking office, stated, "Regarding the nuclear programs of Iran and North Korea, which pose a serious threat to U.S. and global security, we will work closely with our allies to address the threats posed by both countries through diplomacy and stern deterrence."
Director Kwon said, "The U.S. labeling our self-defensive deterrence as a 'threat' is absurd and an infringement on our right to self-defense," adding, "The 'diplomacy' claimed by the U.S. is merely a superficial banner to cover their hostile acts, and 'deterrence' is just a means to threaten us with nuclear weapons."

He warned, "Now that the foundation of the U.S.'s new policy toward North Korea has become clear, we inevitably must take corresponding measures, and as time passes, the U.S. will face very serious situations."
