Gangbuk-gu Dream Tree Nurturing Scholarship Students Share Talents with Elementary and Middle School Students 'Kiteuk'
On the 23rd, a Matching Ceremony Held Between University Student Mentors and Elementary and Middle School Dreamers... Serving as 1:1 Customized Guides in Dance, Art, Music, and Learning Fields
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) held a meeting on the 23rd to foster support between university students and elementary and middle school students residing in the area.
This meeting was initiated with the purpose of university student mentors drawing out hidden talents in youth.
The mentors are former recipients of the Gangbuk-gu Dream Tree Nurturing Scholarship. They participated in the project to give back their talents to juniors as a form of talent donation, having received support from the scholarship foundation. The Dream Tree Nurturing Scholarship is a type of aptitude development fund that provides ongoing support until the talent fully blossoms, rather than being a one-time grant.
University students were matched with students recommended by local elementary and middle schools to provide counseling and guidance. They serve as one-on-one personalized guides in areas such as career planning, motivation for learning, and emotional support. Mentors and mentees are paired considering the student's desired field among dance, art, music, and academics. Four university students and sixteen youths are involved.
Due to COVID-19, counseling and guidance primarily utilize social networking services (SNS). Face-to-face meetings occur only when absolutely necessary, especially given the nature of the arts fields. To facilitate smooth progress, the district supports the use of lecture rooms, learning materials, and provides a modest activity budget.
Students participating in the event exchanged partnership certificates. Afterwards, university student mentors held group meetings by field based on applications submitted by the elementary and middle school students in advance. They agreed to communicate frequently to build positive bonds. Time was also allocated to discuss specific counseling directions, content, and communication methods.
