On the 22nd, the Ministry of Education announced that from the 15th to the 21st, a total of 369 kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students and 66 staff members tested positive for COVID-19.
Compared to the previous week, student cases decreased by 26, while staff cases increased by 8. On average, 52.7 students and 9.4 staff members were confirmed positive per day. After reaching consecutive peak numbers in the first and second weeks of April, the number of student cases has recently entered a downward trend over the past week.
Although the number of student cases slightly decreased, the number of schools unable to hold in-person classes actually increased. As of 10 a.m. on the day, 184 schools (0.9%) were unable to conduct in-person classes, an increase of 38 schools compared to the previous week. Forty-three schools (0.2%) held discretionary holidays.
The schools unable to hold in-person classes were ▲63 in Gyeongnam ▲28 in Seoul ▲22 in Gyeonggi ▲18 in Jeonbuk, among others.
The number of kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students attending in-person classes (as of 4 p.m. the previous day) was 4,311,458, accounting for 72.7% of all students. The number of students unable to attend due to COVID-19 was 49,923, of whom 11,716 were in self-quarantine due to confirmed cases or contact with confirmed individuals.

In the past week, 156 university students and 15 university staff members tested positive. On average, 22.2 university students and 2.1 staff members were confirmed positive per day. The cumulative confirmed cases are 987 university students and 107 university staff members.
