Imsil-gun, All-Out Efforts for Water Quality Improvement Activities Around Okjeongho Lake
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] On the 22nd, Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk announced that it is putting all its efforts into water quality management of Okjeongho Lake, which boasts pristine natural scenery, and intensive garbage collection to welcome spring tourists.
Earlier on the 1st, the county held the '2021 Okjeongho Watershed Guardian Launch Ceremony' and is focusing on water quality improvement activities such as monitoring illegal dumping of garbage on the surface and shores of Okjeongho Lake and collecting abandoned waste through 23 guardians.
Due to frequent rains, Okjeongho Lake had been adversely affected not only in water quality but also in natural scenery by various wastes such as Styrofoam and wood discarded by visitors in winter and illegal fishing activities, along with household waste flowing in from upstream.
The watershed guardians collected about 15 tons of garbage over three weeks using environmental management boats and vehicles throughout every corner of Okjeongho Lake.
In particular, recently, they focused on collecting garbage in Yosan Park and Bung-eo Island areas, which are crowded with tourists in spring.
Additionally, they are conducting intensive crackdowns using patrol boats and vehicles on acts that harm the water quality preservation of Okjeongho, a wide-area water source, such as fishing within Okjeongho, illegal dumping of garbage, car washing, and unauthorized wastewater discharge.
