Kim Sun-ho, Gurye County Governor, Attracts Tourists by Expanding Wild Mustard Flowers Along the Seomjin Riverbanks
Order to Discover Unique Tourist Attractions at the Department Head Policy Discussion Meeting
Seeking Measures to Make Gurye, a Nature and Ecology Hub, the Nation's Top Tourist City
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gurye-gun, Jeonnam (Governor Kim Soon-ho) is embarking on creating a unique tourist attraction using wild mustard flowers.
Gurye-gun announced on the 20th that it held a policy discussion meeting chaired by Governor Kim Soon-ho the previous day to actively promote the expansion of wild mustard flower cultivation along the Daesup-gil Seomjin River and its development into a tourist attraction.
At the discussion, Governor Kim instructed to prepare plans to expand the cultivation of wild mustard flowers along the Daesup-gil Seomjin River and create a unique tourist attraction exclusive to Gurye-gun.
He also emphasized proactive measures to secure national funding projects, strict adherence to quarantine rules amid a surge of COVID-19 cases in nearby areas, thorough operation of the COVID-19 vaccination center for those aged 75 and older, establishment of public service discipline through self-management, and strict operation of the Earth Day "Car-Free Street".
Wild mustard flowers may at first glance resemble canola flowers in appearance and color, which can be deceptive, but they are a different plant species. The wild mustard flowers blooming along the Daesup-gil Seomjin River create a magnificent view and are becoming a rising hot spot, attracting filming from various broadcasting stations.
Additionally, wild mustard flowers have diverse uses, including being used to make kimchi. Therefore, next year, plans will be devised to increase the cultivation area of wild mustard flowers and actively promote them as a tourist attraction.
In particular, it was highly evaluated that Gurye, a nature-ecology-centered area famous for cornelian cherry flowers, cherry blossoms, and canola flowers, has discovered wild mustard flowers as a novel tourism resource to develop into the nation's top tourist city.
Governor Kim Soon-ho said, “Please continuously manage by installing guide signs to inform visitors of the location of the wild mustard flowers and signs prohibiting unauthorized picking so that tourists visiting to see the wild mustard flowers do not experience inconvenience,” and instructed to prepare active revitalization measures.
