[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has declared himself a welfare mayor.
On the 16th, Mayor Oh held a meeting attended by heads of social welfare-related professional organizations in Seoul and said, "Citizens remember me as the design mayor, but in fact, the design mayor was someone who did what the previous mayor did not do," adding, "During my previous five-year term, I was proud to be a welfare mayor, and even if I work again, I intend to be a welfare mayor."
He added that he would work closely with frontline sites to improve the quality of life for citizens. Mayor Oh emphasized, "If there is a reason for the existence of an elected administration, it is to raise the lives and quality of the citizens," and said, "Working in harmony with those active in welfare and care sectors and integrating this into administration is an important task for the Mayor of Seoul."
