On the 14th, the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Appeal Division 5-3 (Presiding Judges Lee Gwanhyung, Choi Byeongryul, and Won Jeongsuk) held the first appeal trial for the twins, Hyun siblings, who were each sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with 3 years probation in the first trial on charges of obstruction of business.
One of the sisters made a finger gesture by raising her middle finger instead of answering when asked by reporters, "Do you still deny the charges?" as she appeared in court.
They were indicted on charges of taking exams by looking at answers leaked by their father, Mr. Hyun, five times from the first semester final exam in 2017 when they were first-year students at Sookmyung Girls' High School until the first semester final exam the following year.

In the first trial last August, they were sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with 3 years probation. The court stated, "The case is very serious as it deprived fair competition, obstructed the school's exam operations, and ultimately undermined trust in public education." The sisters were also ordered to complete 240 hours of community service. Initially, the case was transferred to the family court under the Juvenile Act, but as they continued to deny the charges, it was eventually sent back to the criminal court.
