'100 Days Since Opening' KTX-Eum, Cumulative Passengers Reach 260,000
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] KTX-Eum recorded a cumulative ridership of 260,000 passengers within 100 days of its opening. It is being recognized as the representative transportation means in the central inland region, firmly establishing itself on site.
According to Korea Railroad on the 13th, KTX-Eum will mark its 100th day since opening on the 14th (opened on January 15).
During this period, KTX-Eum operated a total distance of 320,324 km, which is eight times the circumference of the Earth (40,000 km), and the cumulative number of passengers reached 269,390.
In particular, the average daily train ridership on the entire Jungang Line section from Cheongnyangni to Andong increased by about 22%, from 3,583 passengers before the opening of KTX-Eum to 4,366 passengers after the opening.
Among these, the station with the highest increase in average daily passengers was Cheongnyangni Station, which saw an increase of 832 passengers compared to before the opening, followed by Andong Station with 563 passengers and Jecheon Station with 294 passengers.
The reason KTX-Eum was able to establish itself in a short period is analyzed to be due to the significant reduction in travel time between stations.
In fact, the travel time for the 'Cheongnyangni~Andong' section was confirmed to have been reduced by about half, from 4 hours to 2 hours.
Additionally, KTX-Eum is evaluated to have higher passenger satisfaction in terms of facilities compared to existing high-speed trains.
In a national preference survey, respondents expressed satisfaction with the wider seats and aisles compared to existing high-speed trains, the individual panoramic windows that give a feeling similar to flying on an airplane, and the convenience facilities such as wireless phone chargers, USB ports, and power outlets installed at every seat.
