Chinese Government Appoints Former Ambassador Liu Xiaoming as Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs (Comprehensive)

[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop]On the 12th, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed Liu Xiaoming (劉曉明), former Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom, as the Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs.
Special Representative Liu previously served as Ambassador to Egypt and Deputy Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission Leading Group. He served as Ambassador to North Korea for about three years starting in 2006, and from 2009 until earlier this year, he was Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that he is an experienced veteran diplomat familiar with Korean Peninsula affairs and will play a constructive role in promoting the political resolution process of the Korean Peninsula issue.

Special Representative Liu will be responsible for coordinating Korean Peninsula affairs for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs going forward.
