[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The Blue House expressed regret over the prosecution of Lee Jin-seok, the Director of the National Situation Room, by the prosecution, stating that it is unfortunate to prosecute amid the need to respond to COVID-19.
A Blue House official said on the 9th, "It is inappropriate to comment on the prosecution by the prosecution. However, it is regrettable to prosecute while playing an important role in responding to COVID-19."
The Public Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kwon Sang-dae) indicted Director Lee without detention on the charge of violating the Public Official Election Act on the 9th. This is the first additional indictment in one year and four months since January 29 of last year, when 13 people including Song Cheol-ho, Mayor of Ulsan, Song Byung-gi, former Deputy Mayor of Ulsan, and Han Byung-do, former Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, were sent to trial.
Director Lee is suspected of interfering in the Ulsan mayoral election.
