Democratic Party Freshmen: "We Have Become an Established Party... Will Return to Our Original Intentions from a Year Ago and Embrace Change"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The first-term lawmakers of the Democratic Party of Korea have pledged to return to their initial resolve from a year ago and lead changes within the party.
In a joint statement on the 9th, they emphasized, "We, the first-term lawmakers, will change first. We will take the lead in innovating the Democratic Party. We will become the main agents of party innovation."
These first-term lawmakers, who had not raised their voices significantly until now, declared their intention to play a role following the by-election defeat.
They stated, "We will thoroughly review policies overall, the party's operational methods, work practices, and attitudes, and prepare reform plans," adding, "We will formalize the entire first-term lawmakers' meetings and establish an organization for discussions on party innovation. We will hold first-term lawmakers' general meetings regularly and engage in discussions without any sacred cows until the end."
They also expressed their intention to actively push for changes in the party leadership structure, aiming to bring about new and noticeable transformations.
They said, "We will return to the initial resolve from a year ago," and "We will stay close to the field. We will ensure that the Democratic Party of Korea is reborn as a party that meets the public's expectations and aligns with the people's perspective."

They also reflected, "Before we knew it, the Democratic Party had become an 'establishment party,'" and added, "The overconfidence that we can do everything, the complacency of starting first and making plans later, and the arrogance of blocking all criticism by relying on our past and insisting that only we are righteous have shaped the Democratic Party into what it is today."
