Jeju Police Conduct Special Crackdown on Drunk Driving... 206 Caught
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Police Agency announced on the 9th that it caught 203 people during a two-month "special crackdown on drunk driving" conducted since February 1.
This drunk driving crackdown was promoted to preemptively block the atmosphere of drunk driving that took advantage of the easing of social distancing and the somewhat relaxed vigilance on quarantine due to COVID-19 vaccination amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The crackdown was mainly conducted in vulnerable areas such as major roadsides, entertainment and restaurant districts, and tourist spots, using a "spot mobile" method where the crackdown location was moved every 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Also, during the crackdown period, surprise inspections were conducted five times across Jeju.
Among them, 121 people had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher (license cancellation), and 85 people had a blood alcohol concentration between 0.03% and 0.08% (license suspension).
Jeju Police Agency plans to continue enforcement activities using non-contact breathalyzers to correct the mistaken perception that drunk driving crackdowns will loosen due to the COVID-19 situation and to protect the safety of residents.
