[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] A man in his 40s who killed his wife and two children due to financial difficulties and then attempted an extreme act was sentenced to a heavy punishment.
The 1st Criminal Division of Gunsan Branch of Jeonju District Court (Chief Judge Kim Hyundeok) sentenced A (43) to 15 years in prison on the 8th on charges including murder.
A was indicted on charges of killing his wife (43), middle school son (14), and elementary school daughter (10) at an apartment in Mohyeon-dong, Iksan-si, Jeonbuk, at 5:33 p.m. on November 6 last year.
After committing the crime, A attempted an extreme act and was in critical condition with severe bleeding and no breathing, but recovered health through hospital treatment and was then detained.
During police investigation, A stated, "Due to economic difficulties such as debt, I agreed with my wife to make an extreme choice together," and "I intended to send my children and wife first and follow afterward," it was understood.
The will found inside the house at the time contained complaints about economic difficulties. It is known that the last part of the will had the names of A and his wife.
The court said, "A admits all facts of killing his spouse and children, and it appears that the victims had to leave the world without any fault," and "The defendant, who was in such difficult circumstances that the whole family had to end their lives, committed this crime after long deliberation with his wife."

It added, "The defendant is also expected to live with guilt for life as a parent who had to take the lives of young children," and "Considering the fact that the spouse's parents wish for leniency for the defendant and that there are circumstances to be taken into account in the process leading to the crime, the sentence was determined," explaining the reason for sentencing.
