This early timing is about a month earlier than last year, and it is the first open-field rice transplanting in Jeollanam-do.
The transplanted variety is Jinokbyae, an ultra-early maturing variety, which will undergo a short growing period of about 110 days after transplanting, with the first new rice harvest scheduled for the end of July.
Additionally, after the harvest, a second crop of early maturing rice will be planted in early August and harvested at the end of October as part of a double-cropping cultivation demonstration.
Haenam-gun is expanding the area of early rice cultivation to avoid frequent typhoons and heavy rains caused by recent abnormal weather and to target the niche market for new rice.
In particular, about 5 hectares of ultra-early maturing varieties suitable for double cropping are being cultivated, aiming to secure the high-priced new rice market.
