Jeju Island, Full Efforts to Manage Four-Vehicle Pileup in Front of Jeju National University Causing Over 60 Casualties
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province formed a large-scale traffic accident response headquarters on the 7th and is making every effort to manage the traffic accident that occurred the previous day at the intersection near Jeju National University in Ara-il-dong, Jeju City.
At around 6 p.m. the previous day, an 8.5-ton cargo truck traveling from Sancheondan toward downtown Jeju City collided consecutively with two city buses and a 1-ton cargo truck moving in the same direction at the entrance intersection of Jeju National University in Ara-il-dong, Jeju City.
As a result of this accident, three people died, and one person was transported to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest.
The survivor was barely revived after receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation but is still reported to be unconscious.
Four people with serious injuries and 54 with minor injuries were transported to and are receiving treatment at Jeju National University Hospital, Halla Hospital, S-Central Hospital, Hanmaeum Hospital, and Korea Hospital.
Jeju Province immediately arrived at the scene at the time of the accident, identified the rescued individuals, and elevated the accident response headquarters from the administrative city to the provincial level to lead the accident management.
Currently, 71 personnel and 26 pieces of equipment have been mobilized for rescue and accident management.
Jeju Province is maintaining a close cooperative system with related organizations such as the National Police Agency, Fire Safety Headquarters, Bus and Cargo Vehicle Mutual Aid Association to ascertain the cause of the accident, and has assigned 10 guide officials at the hospitals where the victims were transported to assist the injured and their families.

Additionally, at 9 a.m. on the same day, a comprehensive countermeasure meeting was held at Tamna Hall on the 4th floor of Jeju Provincial Office with 13 disaster management collaboration departments and related organizations to check the main progress of each institution and department, and plans to make every effort in accident procedure handling and negotiations related to compensation and accident management.
