From the 8th to the 23rd, elementary students will receive 300,000 KRW, middle school students 400,000 KRW, and high school students 500,000 KRW for excellence in general, community service, and academic or arts and sports achievements.
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) is accepting applications for the '2021 Dream Tree Scholarship' from the 8th to the 23rd to contribute to nurturing future talents.
The total number of scholarship recipients to be selected is 400 (133 elementary school students, 134 middle school students, and 133 high school students).
The amount awarded per student is 300,000 KRW for elementary students, 400,000 KRW for middle school students, and 500,000 KRW for high school students, totaling 160 million KRW.
The scholarships are divided into four categories: ▲General ▲Community Service ▲Academic Excellence ▲Excellence in Arts and Physical Education. The purpose is to nurture various talents and abilities without solely focusing on students' family backgrounds or academic performance.
Eligible recipients must be registered residents of Yongsan-gu as of the announcement date. Students and parents wishing to apply for the scholarship should submit their applications by the 23rd of this month to the local community service center in their jurisdiction (for General and Community Service categories) or to their current school (for Academic Excellence and Arts and Physical Education categories) and obtain a recommendation letter from the community center head or school principal. However, students attending schools outside the district in the Academic Excellence and Arts and Physical Education categories may apply at the community service center in their residential jurisdiction with a principal's recommendation.
Application forms, self-introduction letters, recommendation letters, and other related documents can be downloaded from the announcement and notice section of the district website or the district education comprehensive portal.
The district plans to hold the Scholarship Fund Management Committee meeting next month to select scholarship recipients, award scholarship certificates in May, and disburse the scholarships in early June.
The Dream Tree Scholarship is funded by interest income from the scholarship fund. From 2013 to last year, a total of 2,528 students received scholarships amounting to 1.046 billion KRW.
To promote equal educational opportunities and nurture future talents, the district enacted the 'Yongsan-gu Scholarship Fund Establishment and Operation Ordinance' in 2010 and completed raising 10 billion KRW for the fund over nine years (2011?2019).
