Garak Mall Rooftop Garden Allocated to 40 Households, Opening Ceremony on April 5th Arbor Day... Providing Urban Agriculture Experience for Local Residents to Grow and Taste Produce in the City
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Kim Kyungho) opened the ‘Garak Mall Rooftop Garden,’ which consists of 40 garden boxes on the rooftop of the Garak Mall sales building, for local residents starting from the 5th to promote urban agriculture.
The corporation has been leasing rooftop garden boxes annually since 2015 to allow local residents to directly cultivate and harvest various crops such as potatoes and lettuce in the city, enabling them to naturally understand urban agriculture through the experience of eating with their families.
This year’s rooftop garden operates from April to November, and a total of 40 households from the Songpa-gu area were selected through an application process.
On April 5th, Arbor Day, the corporation held an opening ceremony for the rooftop garden, strictly adhering to COVID-19 prevention guidelines such as wearing masks, temperature checks, and signing visitor logs to ensure safety.
At the opening ceremony, urban agriculture experts provided education on how even beginners can easily manage and cultivate the garden by directly planting seedlings and learning maintenance methods, which received high satisfaction from participants.
